Who qualifies
You can claim if all of the following are true:
- You rent a residential property, or you own and live in a flat or apartment.
- Shared-ownership homes count too.
- You have dedicated off-street parking (your own driveway, allocated bay or garage space).
- You own, lease or have ordered an OZEV-eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
- If you rent, your landlord has given written permission for the chargepoint to be fitted.
Own a home with a driveway instead?
Homeowners with private off-street parking are no longer eligible for a grant. The saving for you comes from a cheap overnight EV tariff, not the OZEV scheme. We'll still get you 3 competitive quotes.

The grant is straightforward, but a few details decide whether you qualify.
The parking must be yours to use
The grant needs a dedicated off-street space that comes with the property. A shared, unallocated car park or on-street parking does not qualify for this grant. The on-street grant has separate parking, cross-pavement installation and permission requirements.
Renters need landlord permission
Get written permission from your landlord and any freeholder or property manager whose consent is needed before you submit your online application.
It must be an OZEV-eligible vehicle
You need to own, lease or have placed an order for a qualifying EV or plug-in hybrid. Have the evidence ready for your application and installer.
One socket per applicant
The scheme funds one eligible residential chargepoint socket fitted by an OZEV-authorised installer. If you need more than one, the landlord scheme may be the better route.
How to claim, step by step
You apply before installation; your installer claims after the work. Here's the process.

Submit your online application with your quote and supporting documents. OZEV must approve it and notify you and your installer before work starts.

After installation, your installer deducts the grant from your invoice and claims it from OZEV. OZEV pays the installer if the claim is approved.

How much is the renters and flat owners grant worth?
It pays 75% of the combined cost to buy and install a chargepoint socket, capped at £500. So if your fitted charger costs £900, the grant covers up to £500 and you pay the rest.
I rent. Will my landlord need to do anything?
Your landlord needs to give written permission for the charger to be installed. Get any other required permissions too, such as from a freeholder or property manager. You submit the online application with a dated installer quote and the supporting documents, then wait for OZEV approval before installation. The installer claims after the work is complete.
I own a flat. Do I still qualify?
You can apply if you own and live in a flat or apartment with dedicated off-street parking. Shared-ownership properties also count. You must meet the vehicle, permission and other scheme conditions, and wait for OZEV approval before installation. The grant covers 75% of the cost, capped at £500.
What if my parking is a shared, unallocated car park?
The grant needs a dedicated off-street space that you have the legal right to use and can access at all times. Shared, unallocated parking does not automatically qualify for the on-street grant. That scheme requires suitable on-street parking, a permanent cross-pavement solution and the relevant permissions. Ask your installer to check your parking arrangement and eligibility before you apply.
How do I actually claim it?
You apply online using your chosen installer's dated quote and the required permissions and documents. Wait for OZEV to approve your application and notify you and your installer before work starts. After installation, your installer deducts the grant from your invoice and submits the claim. OZEV pays your installer directly if the claim is approved.
