Share EV is the tariff NI's EV drivers keep recommending to each other, and on the rates we checked on 14 August 2026 the recommendation still holds: 15.56p a unit overnight is the lowest verified night rate in Northern Ireland, under both Power NI's EV Nightshift and Click Energy's Day & Night. Here is the full picture, including the one case where it is not the cheapest option.

The short answer

Cheapest overnight in NI: 15.56p per unit at night, 32.04p by day, including VAT, on Billpay or direct debit.
Needs the meter and the window: a day and night meter, with the cheap rate from 1am to 8am in winter and 2am to 9am in summer.

Read 14 August 2026 from Share Energy's residential tariff page. Share Energy also sells Share 24, a single-rate tariff at 31.96p including VAT, for households that cannot take a day and night meter, though Power NI's EV Anytime at 30.53p is the cheaper flat rate of the two.

What the gap is worth

Against Power NI's EV Nightshift, Share EV is 2.23p a unit cheaper at night, about 12.5%, and 5.16p cheaper by day, with a marginally lower standing charge. On a 60kWh battery charged overnight that is roughly £9.34 a fill against £10.67, and about £1.34 saved per full charge. Against Click Energy's Day & Night it wins on both rates. About those price rises

The reason drivers hedge when recommending Share EV online is that its rates have moved, and most pages quoting them have not moved with them. That is a reason for dated figures, not a reason to dismiss the tariff: on the rates we read from Share Energy's own page on 14 August 2026, it remains the lowest verified night rate in Northern Ireland. When that stops being true, this page will say so, because we re-check every figure monthly rather than letting a good ranking outlive the price that earned it.

Second, the schedule: seven hours at 7kW is up to 49kWh of overnight charging, plenty for most cars, but only if the charger starts inside the window on its own rather than at the moment you plug in.

The Share EV night window runs from 1am to 8am in winter (GMT) and 2am to 9am in summer (BST), exactly the same window Power NI uses for EV Nightshift. Seven hours at 7kW is up to 49kWh, a full overnight charge for most electric cars, provided the charger is scheduled to start inside the window rather than the moment you plug in.

Is Share EV still the cheapest way to charge an EV in Northern Ireland?

On every rate we have verified, yes, overnight at home it is. Share EV's 15.56p night rate undercuts Power NI's EV Nightshift at 17.79p and Click Energy's Day & Night at 17.291p, all including VAT, checked 14 August 2026. Drivers online have flagged recent price rises, which is why we re-check monthly and date every figure, but the rise has not changed the ranking: it is still the lowest verified night rate in NI. The caveat is the day rate: at 32.04p, Share EV costs more by day than Power NI's flat 30.53p EV Anytime, so day-heavy households can still pay less elsewhere.

Can I get Share EV on a keypad meter?

Yes. Share Energy sells a keypad version of Share EV with the same unit rates, 15.56p at night and 32.04p by day including VAT, but a higher standing charge of 16.67p a day against 13.33p on Billpay. You still need a day and night meter alongside the keypad so overnight units are recorded separately.
