Share Energy's EV tariff, reviewed
Share EV is the tariff NI's EV drivers keep recommending to each other. On 1 October its night rate rises from 15.56p to 17.19p a unit, and on the rates we checked on 23 September 2026 that is still the lowest verified night rate in Northern Ireland, under both Power NI's EV Nightshift and Click Energy's Day & Night. The lead is now small, though. Here is the full picture, including where it is not the cheapest option.

Share EV: the verified rates
Rates from 1 October 2026. Unit rates are identical on Billpay and keypad; only the standing charge differs. Figures include 5% VAT, with the excluding-VAT figure in brackets and the rate to 30 September underneath.

Read 23 September 2026 from Share Energy's residential tariff page. Share Energy also sells Share 24, a single-rate tariff at 35.99p including VAT from 1 October (31.96p before), for households that cannot take a day and night meter, though Power NI's EV Anytime at 30.53p is the cheaper flat rate of the two by a wide margin.
What the gap is worth
From 1 October, Share EV is 0.60p a unit cheaper than Power NI's EV Nightshift at night, about 3.4%, and 0.71p cheaper by day, with a marginally lower standing charge. On a 60kWh battery charged overnight that is £10.31 a fill against £10.67, about 36p saved per full charge, down from £1.34 before the rise. Against Click Energy's Day & Night it still wins on both rates, but only by about a tenth of a penny at night, and Click's Bill Pay standing charge of 10.219p a day is lower than Share's 13.33p. About those price rises
Share Energy has raised its prices twice in 2026: by 26.4% on 1 April and by 12.6% on 1 October, when Share EV's night rate goes up 10.5% and its day rate 13.9%. Most pages quoting Share EV still show the old figures. On the rates we read from Share Energy's own page on 23 September 2026, it remains the lowest verified night rate in Northern Ireland, but the gap that made it the obvious pick has mostly closed. Two practical notes before switching. First, the meter: Share EV needs a day and night meter, and our guide to getting a day and night meter fitted covers who arranges it and the lead times. Second, the schedule: seven hours at 7kW is up to 49kWh of overnight charging, plenty for most cars, but only if the charger starts inside the window on its own rather than at the moment you plug in.

From 1 October 2026 it charges 17.19p per unit at night and 36.49p by day, including VAT, up from 15.56p and 32.04p, with a standing charge of 13.33p a day on Billpay or direct debit (checked 23 September 2026). What times is Share Energy's night rate?
The Share EV night window runs from 1am to 8am in winter (GMT) and 2am to 9am in summer (BST), exactly the same window Power NI uses for EV Nightshift. Seven hours at 7kW is up to 49kWh, a full overnight charge for most electric cars, provided the charger is scheduled to start inside the window rather than the moment you plug in.
Is Share EV still the cheapest way to charge an EV in Northern Ireland?
Yes, but only just. After Share Energy's 1 October 2026 rise, Share EV's 17.19p night rate still undercuts Power NI's EV Nightshift at 17.79p and Click Energy's Day & Night at 17.291p, all including VAT, checked 23 September 2026. The lead over Click is about a tenth of a penny a unit, so for most households the standing charge and the day rate now matter as much as the night rate. At 36.49p by day, Share EV costs more than Power NI's flat 30.53p EV Anytime, so day-heavy households can pay less elsewhere.
Can I get Share EV on a keypad meter?
Yes. Share Energy sells a keypad version of Share EV with the same unit rates, 17.19p at night and 36.49p by day including VAT from 1 October, but a higher standing charge of 16.67p a day against 13.33p on Billpay. You still need a day and night meter alongside the keypad so overnight units are recorded separately.
