Click Energy's EV tariff, explained
Click Energy does not sell a tariff badged for electric cars. What it sells is a Day & Night tariff whose night rate, 17.291p a unit including VAT on the rates we checked on 14 August 2026, quietly undercuts Power NI's dedicated EV Nightshift. Whether that makes it right for charging your car comes down to the night window you get, and that depends on how you pay.

- No dedicated EV tariff: Click's EV-relevant product is its Day & Night tariff at 17.291p a unit overnight and 39.771p by day, including VAT.
- The keypad window is the standout: midnight to 8am in winter, nine hours, the longest night window of any NI dual-rate tariff we have verified.

Unit rates are the same whether you pay by keypad or Bill Pay; the standing charge and, crucially, the night window are not. Figures include 5% VAT, with the excluding-VAT figure in brackets.

Read 14 August 2026 from Click Energy's own tariff comparison page, where the current tables are published as effective from 1 April 2026, no fixed term on any tariff. Click's Economy 7 carries the same unit rates on the 1am to 8am window, plus a heat rate. Its Powershift tariff currently prices its peak, normal and low slots identically at 38.808p including VAT, so it offers no overnight saving as published, whatever its name suggests.
How it compares for EV charging
Overnight, Click's 17.291p sits just under Power NI's dedicated EV Nightshift at 17.79p, and its Bill Pay standing charge of 10.219p a day is the lowest of the three suppliers we have verified. Share Energy's Share EV beats it on every unit rate: 15.56p at night and 32.04p by day. Click's 39.771p day rate is the highest of the three, so the more daytime electricity your household uses, the worse it looks. The Ohme pairing, and who this tariff actually suits
Click promoted this tariff for EV owners through a partnership with Ohme, whose chargers read your tariff and schedule charging into the cheap window automatically. That pairing is the whole trick: the tariff only pays if the car reliably drinks its units between midnight (or 1am) and 8am, and a smart charger like the Ohme is what makes that happen without you setting alarms.
It suits keypad households especially well. Most dual-rate tariffs treat keypad customers worst; Click's keypad Day & Night keeps the same unit rates and hands you the nine-hour midnight start: up to 63kWh at 7kW, a full charge for most cars and a deep top-up for the biggest batteries. On Bill Pay, the lower standing charge makes it a reasonable fit for low-usage homes that charge overnight. If your household burns most of its electricity in daylight, the 39.771p day rate will cost you more than it saves, and a flat-rate tariff wins.

Does Click Energy have an EV tariff?
Not a dedicated one. Click Energy does not sell a tariff badged for electric cars the way Power NI's EV Nightshift or Share Energy's Share EV are. What it sells is a Day & Night tariff: a cheaper overnight unit rate of 17.291p including VAT against a 39.771p day rate, on the rates we checked on 14 August 2026. Paired with a smart charger that schedules into the night window, it does the same job as an EV tariff, and that pairing is exactly how Click promoted it with Ohme chargers.
What are Click Energy's night rate times?
It depends on how you pay, and the difference is worth knowing. On keypad, Click's Day & Night window runs from midnight to 8am in winter and 1am to 9am in summer, a nine-hour window and the longest of any Northern Ireland dual-rate tariff we have verified. On Bill Pay, the window is 1am to 8am in winter and 2am to 9am in summer, the same seven to eight hours as Power NI and Share Energy. Click's Economy 7 uses the 1am to 8am window on both payment types.
Is Click Energy cheaper than Power NI for charging an EV?
At night, yes, narrowly. Click's Day & Night night rate of 17.291p including VAT undercuts Power NI's dedicated EV Nightshift at 17.79p, and its Bill Pay standing charge of 10.219p a day is lower than Power NI's 13.55p. But Click's day rate of 39.771p is the highest of the three suppliers we have verified, so the comparison flips if much of your usage happens in daylight. Share Energy beats both overnight at 15.56p. Do I need a special meter for Click Energy's Day & Night tariff?
Yes. Like every dual-rate tariff in Northern Ireland, Day & Night needs a meter that records day and night usage separately so your overnight units are billed at the lower rate. Your supplier arranges the change with NIE Networks. If you already have an Economy 7 or day and night meter, you can usually move straight onto the tariff.
